International project with six governmental agencies and four SME's co-operating in order to realise a data interface to facilitate the exchange of data between national North Sea monitoring networks in real-time. The project is being executed within the fifth framework programme Marine Science and Technology of the European Commission.

SeaNet Data Interface, easy access to data from national marine environmental monitoring networks in the North Sea region

Marine monitoring agencies co-operate in SeaNet - the European workshop on fixed monitoring networks in the North Sea region.

Six monitoring agencies and four companies from the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Norway and Sweden decided to execute the SeaNet Data Interface project (SNDI) to define, develop and implement a data interface to facilitate the adequate data exchange between the fixed national monitoring networks

Data Access

The SeaNet Data Interface will give the SNDI members and external users the opportunity to access international data, via existing national data distribution facilities, under conditions to be agreed upon among the SNDI members. Each SNDI member is and will stay responsible for his own monitoring network and the individual use of the data interface.

Public Private Partnership

Participants in the SeaNet Data Interface project are six monitoring agencies and four companies:

The tasks are divided between the partners in accordance with their involvement, responsibilities, expertise and function with respect to the current marine monitoring networks in the North Sea region and the SeaNet Data Interface to be realised. The SNDI project is executed within the frame of the Marine Science and Technology Programme of the fourth RTD framework programme of the European Commission. The project started September 1998 and will be finished in the first half of 2001.
